Understanding battery platforms
Why a battery from one system will not fit another — and how to plan your collection.
Each platform is its own system
Milwaukee M18 and M12, DeWalt XR 18V, Makita LXT 18V and Makita XGT 40V Max are separate systems. Batteries and chargers are not interchangeable between brands, and not always between platforms from the same brand.
Voltage and capacity
Voltage (for example 12V or 18V) indicates the platform. Capacity, shown in Ah, affects run time. Check the manufacturer's guidance for which batteries suit each tool.
Plan around one platform
Staying on one platform lets you share batteries across your tools and buy future tools as bare units.
